This year, the ZEvent raised more than 10 million euros for non-governmental associations whose missions revolve around ecology. A significant sum that means a lot to these organizations: evidenced by Sea Shepherd’s statement in response to Emmanuel Macron’s message.

ZEvent 22: ecology at the heart of this seventh edition

This weekend took place the seventh edition of ZEvent. It is a charity event founded by Alexandre “Dash“Dachary and Adrian”Zerator” Nougaret, spread over 72 hours, during which many personalities from the streaming world are united around the same goal: raise money for a non-profit organization. For example, the 2020 and 2021 editions respectively raised more than 5 million euros and more than 10 million euros for Amnesty International and Action Against Hunger. For 2022, it is the association Good Planet who was to be chosen to be the guest of this seventh edition but preferred to withdraw for various reasons.

Finally, 22 associations previously chosen by Zerator and his team were submitted to the vote of the community to choose five among them. Users then voted for LPOthe WWF, Time for the Planet, The Sea Cleaners and Sea Shepherd.

All have objectives related to ecology, the theme of this seventh ZEvent: according to Zerator, it is something important that concerns us all. It is therefore normal to find different missions depending on the associations: those of LPO focus on the protection of biodiversity, those of the WWF on a more general front (climate, energy, food, etc.), those of Time for the Planet around innovation to reduce global warming, while those of The Sea Cleaner revolve around cleaning up the oceans.

“Yes thank you to #ZEVENT2022 which in 3 days has helped us more than any government”

Nevertheless, it is the association Sea Shepherd which interests us here. Like its counterparts chosen for the ZEvent 2022, its objectives concern ecology. More specifically, they are protectors of marine life and its biodiversity: an ecosystem threatened by illegal fishing and overfishing, they say.. In Twitter response to Emmanuel Macron’s post published yesterday to congratulate streamers, they discuss their difficulties in alerting the government to the current state of the oceans:

Yes thanks to #ZEVENT2022 who in 3 days helped us more than any gvt. Our ocean alerts went unheeded by your teams and we weren’t even admitted to the dolphin catch working group because of a veto from the fishermen.

Here, it is therefore the inactivity of the government that seems to be singled out by the Sea Shepherd association. An inactivity already underlined by several streamers yesterday such as Antoine Daniel, Angle Droit or Jean Massiet.
