Reactor number 5 shut down

Reactor number five at the Zaporizhia power plant has been shut down, according to the Ukrainian operator.

“Due to insufficient capacity for two reactors, reactor number 5 was shut down”Ukrainian operator Energoatom said in a statement on Telegram, blaming the strikes by Russian forces.

This incident occurred “after new bombardments in the area”according to information provided by the Ukrainian authorities to the UN body.

A total loss of power to the plant – if the power arriving from outside is cut off and the emergency generators are not working – could lead to overheating of the installations.
