On the technical level first. New Tidy is based on a new platform (MLA) from the Jaguar Land Rover group, made up mostly of aluminium. The latter is capable of receiving a wide range of engines, including a 100% electric version, of meeting the brand’s off-road requirements and of offering an unprecedented level of versatility. Then there is technology with an abundance of new equipment, the most cutting-edge of the moment and finally refinement, the Range’s favorite domain.

The front side has been slightly modernized. We note the arrival of HD lights that illuminate more than 500 meters.

Her look was not upset. The silhouette is in line with the previous model. We find the floating roof, a high waistline and large wheels. The recipe has been modernized by a smoother treatment of the bodywork, in particular with flush door handles. This simplification of the design has benefits for the aerodynamics of the Range, which has the best coefficient in its category (Cx: 0.30).

But the biggest change concerns the positioning of the rear lights, now vertical. The latter, full LED, are connected on the upper part by a black band in which scrolling indicators are integrated. At the front, Land Rover has installed high-definition Full LED lights capable of illuminating more than 500 meters and simultaneously masking 16 objects (vehicles, pedestrians, etc.) so as not to dazzle them.

The Range grows by 5 cm to reach 5.05 m in its “short” version. The long version (+20 cm), is also renewed. It costs about €3,000 more and for the first time, offers the possibility of obtaining 7 seats, thanks to the addition of two additional seats, also charged €3,000 more.

The Range Rover laid the foundations of the luxury 4×4 long before the arrival of the Porsche Cayenne, Aston Martin DBX or Lamborghini Urus. The Brit offers a world apart that is as technological as it is exclusive. The designers have lightened the dashboard in detail. Practically all the storage is hidden by high quality materials with this concern for minimalism. Passengers will travel in a case because the smallest element has undergone special treatment. Leather, marquetry and even ceramic are featured on the most upscale versions (SV program: special vehicle). In addition to 14 smartphone charging points available, a nomadic touchscreen tablet placed in the central armrest awaits passengers to control equipment such as seat massage, the multimedia screen housed in the headrest or the connection very high speed internet.

In short, we are in the ultra-luxury and excellence. Among the big news is the arrival of an imposing floating 13.7” multimedia system equipped with a high-definition screen with haptic feedback and a 5G connection made possible thanks to the unsightly second antenna placed on the roof. . The latter allows remote updates. The central screen is ultra-efficient and also integrates the “Alexa” personal assistant, once your Amazon account is paired with the car.

Good news, the air conditioning and ventilation controls remain physical, that’s a good point. The list of equipment for our test version in “First Edition” finish, billed at €170,800, is as long as your arm. Among the innovations we note the air purifier by nano particles or the acoustic reducer placed in the headrests.

Land Rover remains faithful to tradition with a motorized tailgate in two parts, the lower side of which is capable of supporting 150 kg so that you can sit there for a picnic or fishing, for example. The trunk cube more than 700 liters in its 5-seater version. It’s good but not exceptional for a vehicle of this size. Just like the rather disappointing space in the rear seats. For a vehicle over 5 meters we would expect better. However, there is the “long frame” alternative.
