Change of name
Marketed since 2018, the DS 7 Crossback quickly established itself as an essential vehicle for the French brand. It thus became in a few months its best-selling model and it even represented more than half of the sales of the French manufacturer. Above all, it allowed DS to assert its position on the premium market since it was the most sold premium SUV in France between 2018 and 2021. It is therefore impossible to deny its success.
However, after almost five years of career, it is time for this DS7 to get a makeover, as tradition dictates in the automotive world. And yes, you heard right, we must now say DS 7 and no longer DS 7 Crossback. Change of name therefore since the term “Crossback” is not more popular than that with customers. And it is very likely that it will be the same in a few months for his little brother, the DS 3 Crossback which would therefore become DS 3.
A completely renewed personality
This question of semantics settled, the aesthetic changes made to this DS 7 are important and are noticeable at first glance. They mostly focus on the front and back.
Thus, from the front, we immediately notice the new light signature and in particular the new daytime running lights. No more verticals before restyling, they are replaced by new ones inspired by those present on the DS X E-Tense and Aero Sport Lounge concepts. Called “DS Light Veil”, they consist of four lines composed of 33 LEDs. From a technical point of view, it is a laser-engraved polycarbonate surface painted on the internal surface only, so as to give it an appearance of alternating light and body-coloured painted areas. This new entity rubs shoulders with new, finer projectors, but which change technology. Gone are the spinning crystals that were one of DS’s hallmarks. From now on, the French brand has used Pixel LED projectors made up of 84 LEDs which make it possible to optimize lighting according to traffic and climatic conditions. The other changes relate to the grille which has been widened while the DS Wings – these chrome elements – are now reduced in size. The lower part of the shield has also been redesigned and the soft nose – part between the bonnet and the grille – has also been slightly revised.
The stern also receives its share of novelties with the adoption of a new tailgate with more marked body lines. The lights are thinner and between them no longer appears the name DS7 Crossback but DS Automobiles.
In the end, we often tended to criticize the bling-bling and flashy side of certain DS models. The criticisms seem to have been held back. Results: the DS7 does not lose personality, quite the contrary, it gains and thereby reinforces its statutory side
An E-Tense 360 version with a sportier design
This is the novelty of this restyling: the introduction of a rechargeable hybrid version of 360 hp, which comes to oversee the range. Beyond the technical specifics, it is characterized by a few particular stylistic elements such as many black body parts, 21-inch rims, a lower ride height and widened tracks. Enough to give this DS 7 even more character.
An interior still as classy
If the exterior evolves enormously, this is not the case of the passenger compartment which remains unchanged. To tell the truth, it’s not a bad thing since it represented one of the strong points of this DS 7. We therefore find the very rewarding atmosphere of the French SUV with quality materials (leather, alcantara, aluminum), some brand-specific details such as pearl stitching, guillochage or the retractable BRM watch.
We obviously find certain classic touches at DS such as the guillochage or the retractable BRM watch.
These noble materials can completely dress the interior, be it the dashboard, the door panels and even the roof. DS is also taking advantage of this restyling to introduce new leather wefts. The driver will have in front of him a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation whose graphics have been modernized and which can be relayed by a large head-up display. The 12.3-inch multimedia screen also receives the new Stellantis operating system, which marks significant progress in terms of ergonomics and fluidity. Only regret, the presence still on the central console of the window regulators.
Whether in the rear seats or in the trunk, the DS 7 is very welcoming.
As the dimensions remain unchanged, with in particular a length of 4.60 m, status quo concerning the practical aspects, which still remain very interesting with generous rear roominess and a trunk that can accommodate a volume of 550 liters whether the engine is plug-in hybrid or thermal.
