Joséphine and Oscar radiant at the wedding of Maria Laura

This Saturday, September 10, 2022, Princess Maria Laura of Belgium celebrated her civil and religious marriage in Brussels. The Belgian royal family was present in full force, including the new half-sister of King Philippe, Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent. Princess Delphine was accompanied by her children, Josephine and Oscar O’Hare, Prince and Princess of Belgium. For the two grandchildren of King Albert II, it was their first participation in a royal event in public.

On September 10, 2022, Princess Maria Laura of Belgium married William Isvy civilly at Brussels City Hall, in the morning. A few hours later, after changing her dress, the daughter of Princess Astrid and Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este, religiously married William at the Cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula.

The Belgian royal family was invited in full to celebrate this marriage. King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and their four children were present. Prince Laurent, Princess Claire and their three children attended the wedding, but Princess Astrid had not forgotten to send an invitation to her new half-sister, Princess Delphine.

Delphine was recognized as the natural daughter of King Albert II in January 2020. In October of the same year, justice granted her the title of Princess of Belgium and the change of her surname to Saxe-Coburg. According to the law, which allows the children and grandchildren of Albert II to bear the title of Prince of Belgium, the children of Delphine, Joséphine and Oscar O’Hareare also Royal Highnesses and Prince and Princess of Belgium.

After years of battle in court to be recognized as the daughter of King Albert II, tensions eased, once the final verdict was delivered in October 2020. King Philippe met his half-sister, then King Albert II invited his natural daughter to his home. Since then, Princess Delphine attends major family events and is invited to the official podium during the national holiday. Always escorted by her companion, Jim O’Hare, her children have always been more discreet.

For the first time, Princess Josephine and Prince Oscar attend a public event at the same time as their grandfather, King Albert II

Never before had Princess Josephine and Prince Oscar attended a public event attended by the royal family. Delphine de Saxe-Cobourg had already declared in the press that her children had met their grandfather and that a beginning of relationship was settling. Delphine, herself, was only seen publicly next to her father last February, when they attended together the mass in memory of the deceased of the royal family at the church of Laeken.

Josephine O’Hare, 18, who cannot deny her physical resemblance to Queen Astrid, is starting her university course. The young woman chose to join a university in the Netherlands. Her brother, Oscar, 14, continued his secondary studies at Notre-Dame des Champs school in Uccle.
