Future Dacia Spring (2024). Major restyling in sight for the electric city car

Even if the arrival of a Spring 2 has been announced for 2024, it is rather a major restyling that is being prepared for Dacia’s electric city car. Still made in China, it will gain a much more modern dashboard and a new face, not to mention a few technical developments.

Rather accustomed to fairly discreet facelifts, Dacia should however offer a major restyling to its electric city car, the Spring, in 2024.

A replacement of the Spring from 2024? Here is the surprise announcement that was made at the beginning of the year by Luca de Meo, the boss of the Renault group. The first electric Dacia is not very old, however, since it has only been traveling the French roads since the spring of 2021. But this model first began its career in China under the name Renault K-ZE. Today, The argus can tell you more. According to our information, we should not actually expect a real new generation of Spring but a big improvement. However, this facelift will be on an unprecedented scale at Dacia, rather accustomed to making touch-ups sparingly.

A completely redesigned face

Grille, headlights, shields… the entire front part will thus be subject to significant modifications. For our illustrations, we have decided to take strong inspiration from future Duster and Bigster, which will land almost at the same time. This choice seemed logical to us for questions of aesthetic coherence. After all, with its mini-SUV look, the current Spring already looks like a reduced Sandero 3 Stepway. But Dacia’s design has seen three boss changes in a short time, and it is not yet certain that this direction will ultimately be followed by the current owner, David Durand. Only certainty on the other hand: while the profile should hardly evolve to limit costs, there will be developments on the side of the rear lights.

Too modern a dashboard?

The most spectacular novelties, however, it is in the passenger compartment that you will have to look for them. If you are an avid reader of largus.fr, you may already know them! The restyled Spring should indeed resume, with a few details, the dashboard of one of its many Chinese cousins, the Dongfeng EX1 Nano Box. This also poses some problems for the Romanian brand. With its large central touch screen, digital instrumentation and floating center console, the smallest Dacia suddenly risks appearing much more modern than the rest of the range, while moving away from the manufacturer’s advertising speeches which advocate a return to basics. But impossible to do otherwise. As part of a joint venture also involving Nissan, it is the Chinese Dongfeng who remains the prime contractor on this project. The Spring 2024, which will always be manufactured in the Middle Kingdom, must therefore deal with the decisions of this essential partner.

More powerful engine and increased range

During 2023, the Dacia city car will gain a 60 hp electric motor which will support the current 44 hp block.

This cure for modernity would not be complete without a few technical developments. For the latter, however, there will be no need to wait until the restyling. From 2023, the range will welcome a new 60 hp electric motor to support the current block of 44 hp, which will remain in the catalog. For a supplement that we still imagine reasonable, it will thus be possible to benefit from performance in clear progress, to leave the city more serenely. However, we hope that Dacia will take the opportunity to equip his Spring with better quality tires than today. As for the battery, it will receive a small improvement to gain around 2 kWh, with a useful capacity now close to 30 kWh. Dacia’s objectives are to display a range of 200 km and that the 44 hp version remains below the €20,000 mark.
