Behind the scenes of a successful premiere at the Parc des Princes

The new look PSG, Campos-Galtier version, began its Champions League campaign on Tuesday evening against Juventus Turin. Victory 2-1 where Paris first shone before shaking.

The atmosphere of the great evenings

The pyrotechnic show at the Auteuil corner foreshadowed a great evening. When the Champions League anthem sounds, the fans and the twenty-two actors have their eyes turned towards the tribune reddened by smoke. This spectacle should be sanctioned by UEFA but many will remember these images. On the ground, Paris passed this first test successfully.

First victory against Juventus in the European Cup. Inevitably, in the official gallery, the faces of the Parisians were smiling, happy to start this campaign in this way. On the other hand, the president of Juventus Andrea Agnelli did not have the head of the good days. “He seemed elsewhere, like a lost lamb”, tells us a witness present a few rows from the Italian. Nasser al-Khelaïfi went to congratulate the players in the locker room at the end of the match. A first victory that must be confirmed. “We have to continue like this,” said the PSG boss in substance.

Neymar and Mbappé spoke again about the action of the 51st in relaxation

On the field, a man stood out and it is of course Kylian Mbappé. A double on his first two real situations. PSG number 7, “difficult to stop” according to Massimiliano Allegri, confirmed his passion for this competition. He scored his 34th and 35th Champions League goals. The Blues striker even attempted the hat-trick in the 51st minute. Well launched in depth by Lionel Messi, he preferred to shoot in force while Neymar was alone at the far post. The whole stadium saw it. With a half-incredulous, half-annoyed look, the Brazilian showed his frustration without adding to it. Looking for his teammate to find the beginning of an explanation. Mbappé answered him a few seconds later, with his hands, to tell him that he had not seen him. Christophe Galtier was questioned on this subject at a press conference: “I don’t know if Kylian sees Ney. I don’t have the right angle. Obviously this goal would have been synonymous with relief. But we’re starting this competition well.”

After the match, the coach will review the images to realize the obvious but without overwhelming the double scorer of the evening. Neymar and Kylian Mbappé spoke about it again in a relaxed way. No controversy. The Frenchman does not leave with the ball but with the trophy for the best player of the match.

Galtier, tense, settles the sand yachting affair

This is not the only controversy he had to put out. Because Christophe Galtier had to do all day with the famous affair of the “sand yacht”, the mode of transport he had used to joke about the not really green transport of PSG. A joke that did not go over well in public opinion and the political world since the reactions rained all day, until the Prime Minister in the afternoon. Not ideal for preparing a match which could condition the continuation of the Parisian adventure of Galtier, who had yet to prove at this level, he who had never won in the Champions League.

In the upper echelons of PSG, we expected the former coach of Lille to react after his dumpling which had quite annoyed. Before the game, discussions were held to find out when was the best time to speak on this subject. Christophe Galtier finally decides to talk about it after the meeting. “It was a joke of poor quality and not at the right time. Believe me, I am concerned with climate problems, the problems of our planet”, he explains in the preamble to the press conference before -match, even before the first question is asked.

This is the first communication error of one who is usually very skilful in front of the media. Even if he appeared a little tense before the meeting according to someone close to the locker room. He received support from Luis Campos. The two men ostensibly exchanged before the match, during the lawn recognition. They then fell into each other’s arms at the final whistle. That’s it, Christophe Galtier has won his first match in the most beautiful of European competitions.
